Exploitation short subjects (three to fifteen minutes in length) with comedic plots and frequent nudity were produced in the silent era. Forbidden Daughters (1927), directed by prominent nude photographer Albert Arthur Allen is among a few to have survived to the present. These were the forerunners of the "nudie" comedy feature films that emerged in the late 1950s. Years later, when the Hays Code came into force, these films were considered too obscene to be reshown.
